Today, however,&nbsp;we shall see how to add a&nbsp;TabBar and a <code>BottomNavigation</code>&nbsp;to your Flutter app.
So, let’s start with what is a <a href="https://api.flutter.dev/flutter/material/TabBar-class.html" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">TabBar View</a> and a <a href="https://api.flutter.dev/flutter/material/BottomNavigationBar-class.html" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">BottomNavigationBar</a>? The official Flutter documentation states the following:
TabBar

 A material design widget that displays a horizontal row of tabs. Typically created as the AppBar.bottom part of an AppBar and in conjunction with a TabBarView. If a TabController is not provided, then a DefaultTabController ancestor must be provided instead. It provides quick navigation between the top-level views of an app. For larger screens, side navigation may be a better fit. A bottom navigation bar is usually used in conjunction with a Scaffold, where it is provided as the Scaffold.bottomNavigationBar argument.

Seems fairly straightforward, doesn’t it?
We initially struggled with trying to determine what is the best approach to incorporate both before eventually settling into one. So enough talking and let’s start coding.

You are probably confused at this point as to what is happening in the file.

Let’s unpack the file one step at a time:
<ol>
<li>We create a static list of icons that will be displayed when the user selects any one of the tabs from BottomNavigationBar.</li>
<li>We create another static list of icons that will be displayed when the user selects any one of the tabs from TabBar. We could have reused the same list but for clarity purposes, we have two separate lists.</li>
<li><code>_onItemTappedForBottomNavigationBar</code>&nbsp;is called when the user selects any tab from the&nbsp;<code>BottomNavigationBar</code>. We pass the index of the selected tab as a parameter so that we can fetch the appropriate image from the list based on the index. In this function, we reset the&nbsp;<code>_selectedIndexForTabBar</code>&nbsp;variable to 0 to avoid overlap between two images.</li>
<li><code>_onItemTappedForTabBar</code>&nbsp;is called when the user selects any tab from the<code>TabBar</code>. We again pass the index of the selected tab as a parameter so that we can fetch the appropriate image from the list based on the index. Similar to the previous point, we reset the&nbsp;<code>_selectedIndexForBottomNavigationBar</code>variable to 0 to avoid overlap between two images.</li>
</ol>
You may also notice that&nbsp;<code>_selectedIndexForTabBar</code>&nbsp;is incremented by 1. Why is that?That is done to help the&nbsp;<code>build</code>&nbsp;function determine which image to display.
<ol>
<li>We are creating the TabBar with the textColor being blue, and we are passing a list of widgets for the tabs. As you can also see, we have an onTap parameter which is assigned to&nbsp;<code>_onItemTappedForTabBar</code>.</li>
<li>We create a&nbsp;<code>DefaultTabController</code>&nbsp;to host out&nbsp;<code>TabBar</code>. Flutter requires that while creating a&nbsp;<code>TabBar</code>&nbsp;we either use the<code>DefaultTabController</code>&nbsp;or provide our own&nbsp;<code>TabController</code>. If neither is provided there will be a runtime exception. We are passing the length for the<code>DefaultTabController</code>&nbsp;as 3 to display the appropriate number of tabs.</li>
<li>We are using both the variables to determine what image should be displayed when the user selects a tab from either the&nbsp;<code>TabBar</code>&nbsp;or<code>BottomNavigationBar</code>.If&nbsp;<code>_selectedIndexForTabBar == 0</code>, we tell the&nbsp;<code>build</code>&nbsp;function to fetch an image from the&nbsp;<code>_listOfIconsForBottomNavigationBar</code>list and vice versa.</li>

Flutter Tutorial - Add TabBar and BottomNavigation to Your App

At&nbsp;<a href="https://www.oaktreeapps.com/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">OakTree Apps</a>, we are big fans of open-source projects. It helps us develop beautiful products at a faster pace without reinventing the wheel.
The team initially spend time looking into integrating a&nbsp;<a href="https://wordpress.com/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">WordPress</a>&nbsp;blog into the site. We soon realized that a WP installation would require a CMS to manage the content on the back-end.
After researching a bit, we eventually settled into using&nbsp;<a href="https://www.gatsbyjs.org/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Gatsby</a>. And here’s why:
<ol>
<li>It is blazing fast as you can see&nbsp;<a href="https://www.gatsbyjs.org/blog/2018-10-03-gatsby-perf/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">here</a>.</li>
<li>It is an open-source&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/gatsbyjs/gatsby" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">project</a>&nbsp;and has very solid community support.</li>
<li>It is a&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/facebook/react" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">react-based</a>, static site generator, which is a huge benefit over WP as it eliminates the need for having a CMS.</li>
<li>It uses&nbsp;<a href="https://graphql.org/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">GraphQL</a>&nbsp;to build the underlying data layer, which means that you can supply gatsby with data from any conceivable source. It can be a markdown, json, xml, third party API integration or a combination of all of them.</li>
</ol>
So with all that being said, let’s jump right in.
Note: This post uses netlify for deployment. If you haven’t heard of netlify, check them out&nbsp;<a href="https://www.netlify.com/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">here</a>!

<li>For this post, we shall use be using&nbsp;<a href="https://www.gatsbyjs.org/starters/gatsbyjs/gatsby-starter-blog/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">this</a>&nbsp;template. For more templates click&nbsp;<a href="https://www.gatsbyjs.org/starters/?v=2" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">here</a>.</li>
<li>Now let’s dig through the various folders within the template folder. You should have a folder structure that looks something similar to this:

<li>Let’s look at some of the key files within the folder:

<li>The&nbsp;<code>content</code>&nbsp;folder consists of your&nbsp;<code>blog</code>&nbsp;the folder which will host your blog(s).</li>
<li>The&nbsp;<code>gatsby-browser.js</code> file includes links to the various styling/formatting aspects for your blog. For example, CSS file(s) or any custom fonts that you use.</li>
<li>The&nbsp;<code>gatsby-config.js</code>&nbsp;includes the various plugins and any customization to your blog in terms of accessing URLs, static resources, etc.</li>
<li>The&nbsp;<code>src</code>&nbsp;folder contains a bunch of different folders as seen in the image:

<li>Open the&nbsp;<code>bio.js</code>&nbsp;file in a text editor. Change the default profile picture by locating the following line:<code>avatar: file(absolutePath:&amp;nbsp;{&amp;nbsp;regex: "/profile_picture.png/"&amp;nbsp;})</code>&nbsp;Your profile picture should reside within the&nbsp;<code>content/assets</code>&nbsp;folder.</li>
<li>Open the&nbsp;<code>gatsby-config.js</code>&nbsp;file and change the&nbsp;<code>siteMetaData</code>to reflect the appropriate author, title, description, and your social media URLs.</li></ul></li>
<li>Now navigate to the blog folder and run the following command:<code>gatsby develop</code>Once the command has been executed successfully, go to your<a href="http://localhost:8000/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">localhost</a>. Your blog should now running on your localhost.</li>
<li>We also need to make sure that the blog runs correctly from your website subdirectory. In order to do so, open the&nbsp;<code>gatsby-config.js</code>&nbsp;file and set the<code>pathPrefix</code>&nbsp;option. You can check<a href="https://www.gatsbyjs.org/docs/path-prefix/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">here</a>&nbsp;for more details.</li>
<li>Once the&nbsp;<code>pathPrefix</code>&nbsp;has been added, run the following command:<code>gatsby build --prefix-paths</code>Make sure that the flag is passed or Gatsby will ignore the flag and your blog will not be able to access the static resources.</li>
<li>Once the command has been executed successfully, navigate to your<code>my-blog/public</code>&nbsp;folder. Your public folder should look something like this:Create a new folder called&nbsp;<code>blog</code>&nbsp;within your website directory. Copy all the contents of the&nbsp;<code>my-blog/public</code>&nbsp;folder into<code>path/to/website/blog</code>folder.

<li>If the&nbsp;<code>netlify deploy</code>&nbsp;command has been executed successfully, it will provide you with a&nbsp;Live Draft URL&nbsp;that can be used to view the website. We have a few key points to unpack here. So let’s dive in.

<li>We have created a static list of cities that will be used for this example.</li>
<li>The&nbsp;<code>_showModal()</code>&nbsp;method is calling the<code>showModalBottomSheet()</code>which is returning a&nbsp;<code>StateBuilder</code>&nbsp;as the root&nbsp;<code>Widget</code>&nbsp;here. Now, you may be wondering why?</li>

A simpler explanation:
<ul>
<li>Whenever we use&nbsp;<code>BottomSheet</code>&nbsp;in our app, it creates a new<code>Widget</code>within the&nbsp;<code>Navigator</code>&nbsp;stack that isn’t a child of your original widget (<code>MyHomePage</code>in this case).</li>
<li>Without using the&nbsp;<code>StatefulBuilder</code>, the&nbsp;<code>BottomSheet</code>&nbsp;would never update with the latest data based on user search term.</li>
</ul>
The&nbsp;<code>StatefulBuilder</code>&nbsp;is the magic potion here that ties it all up.**Now that we are clear on that, let’s continue.
<ol>
<li>We are using the&nbsp;<code>onChanged</code>&nbsp;method within the&nbsp;<code>TextField</code>&nbsp;to track user input and build a&nbsp;<code>_tempListOfCities</code>&nbsp;based on the search term.</li>
<li>The&nbsp;<code>itemCount</code>&nbsp;parameter uses either the&nbsp;<code>_tempListOfCities</code>&nbsp;if there is any search term, or the static&nbsp;<code>_listOfCities</code>. We are doing this so as to make sure the count is always up-to-date.</li>
<li>The&nbsp;<code>child</code>&nbsp;parameter uses the same&nbsp;<code>_tempListOfCities</code>&nbsp;or<code>_listOfCities</code>based on what is available.</li>
<li>Here, we are using the&nbsp;<code>_scaffoldKey</code>&nbsp;within its&nbsp;<code>currentState</code>&nbsp;to show the&nbsp;<code>SnackBar</code>. We are also using the&nbsp;<code>behavior</code>&nbsp;parameter here to make sure that the&nbsp;<code>SnackBar</code>&nbsp;is not blocked by the<code>BottomSheet</code>.</li>
<li>The&nbsp;<code>_showBottomSheetWithSearch</code>&nbsp;simply draws each row item.</li>
<li>The&nbsp;<code>_buildSearchList</code>&nbsp;is the method that performs the actual computation based on user input to generate the&nbsp;<code>_tempListOfCities</code>. For the purposes of this tutorial, the method is simply looping through the entire<code>_listOfCities</code>&nbsp;and comparing each input character with the original list, finding any items that contain the search term.In a real world application, there are better approaches than using a for loop for a large dataset. Please keep that in mind.</li>
</ol>
There are some other ways of notifying the bottom sheet that a change has occurred besides a&nbsp;<code>StatefulBuilder</code>. You may also use a&nbsp;<code>Listenable</code>&nbsp;to notify the modal that its needs to update. Of course, if you plan to use <code>Listenable</code>&nbsp;make sure that you create a new&nbsp;<code>Stateful</code>&nbsp;or <code>Stateless</code>&nbsp;widget for better organization of your project. Check out <a href="https://api.flutter.dev/flutter/foundation/ChangeNotifier-class.html" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">ChangeNotifier</a> or <a href="https://api.flutter.dev/flutter/foundation/ValueNotifier-class.html" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">ValueNotifier</a> depending on your requirement (if you want the updated value or not).The final app looks something like this:

To that effect there are three core architecture patterns:
<ul>
<li><code>MVC</code>&nbsp;(Model-View-Controller)</li>
<li><code>MVP</code>&nbsp;(Model-View-Presenter)</li>
<li><code>MVVM</code>&nbsp;(Model-View- ViewModel)</li>
</ul>
We shall dive in today a bit more into the&nbsp;<code>MVVM</code>&nbsp;architecture pattern.

MVVM stands for Model-View-ViewModel.&nbsp;<code>MVVM</code>&nbsp;was introduced by Microsoft in the early 2000s specifically to simplify event-driven programming. With this pattern, the view reacts to the changes asynchronously.

There are three key benefits over other architecture patterns.
<ol>
<li>It moves the responsibility for state management away from the GUI layer into a separate model</li>
<li>Since the&nbsp;<code>ViewModel</code>&nbsp;acts like a black box, simply providing the state to anyone who is interested, unit testing is a lot easier.</li>
<li><code>Serialization</code>&nbsp;and Storage of the model becomes easier, since the model already mirrors what a database entity would look like.</li>
</ol>

While comparing the three architecture patterns, we can see that:
<ul>
<li>In case of&nbsp;<code>MVC</code>, the&nbsp;<code>controller</code>&nbsp;performs a lot of operations. From GUI state management, setting up the GUI itself, API calls, parsing data etc., the controller can become quite a beast. Because of such tight coupling, the&nbsp;<code>controller</code>&nbsp;layer is the least reusable part of the app. Think of the controller as the brain of the app, it decides what happens next.</li>
<li>In case of&nbsp;<code>MVP</code>, the&nbsp;<code>presenter</code>&nbsp;replaces the controller (well, sort of). The&nbsp;<code>presenter</code>&nbsp;takes over the state management, however the actual GUI setup is left to the&nbsp;<code>view</code>&nbsp;themselves (which is a step up from MVC). This helps in offloading and decoupling some of the responsibility. All communication between the presenter and the view takes places via<code>interfaces</code>,&nbsp;<code>callbacks</code>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<code>notifiers</code>.</li>
</ul>
So how do we use MVVM across various platforms? Let’s tackle them one at a time.

Flutter:
The Model: The model layer in Flutter is the same as in iOS and Android. Like the other platforms, the data can be stored either in<a href="https://pub.dev/packages/sqflite" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Sqflite</a>,<a href="https://moor.simonbinder.eu/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Moor</a>, or<a href="https://objectbox.io/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">ObjectBox</a>. The first two storage options are called relational databases (SQL databases). In fact, Moor is build on top of Sqflite, which leads us convert Dart code into sql syntax. ObjectBox is a NoSQL persistance option which supports data sync.The Model can only reflect the raw data, not the characteristics or any features related to the product. This means that the data within the model cannot be manipulated for representation purposes. That responsbility lies with the view itself.
The View: Views in Flutter can be either a<a href="https://api.flutter.dev/flutter/widgets/StatefulWidget-class.html" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Stateful</a>or<a href="https://api.flutter.dev/flutter/widgets/StatelessWidget-class.html" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Stateless</a>widget. An example for stateful and stateless widget can be viewed<a href="https://www.oaktreeapps.com/blog/flutter-bottom-sheet-with-search-view" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">here</a>.&nbsp;Since the view responds according to the gestures or inputs provided by the users, it has no prescribed knowledge of the Model layer. However, it attains the properties of the user behaviors and other data bindings acknowledged within the specified Model and ViewModel.
The ViewModel: In the Flutter world, the&nbsp;<code>ViewModel</code>&nbsp;layer can be initialized via a factory pattern. The views are notified via streams &amp; sinks or by using<a href="https://api.flutter.dev/flutter/foundation/ChangeNotifier-class.html" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">ChangeNotifiers</a>.&nbsp;The ViewModel also possesses access to the methods, function calls, and other factors that can help to maintain the actual state of the View. Moreover, this access also allows the ViewModel to manipulate or moderate the Model according to the behaviors in the view while triggering its processes.In Flutter, the BLoC pattern is very similar to Model-View-ViewModel. Another way to phrase this would be the following:
BLoC + RxDart = MVVM
Let’s step back a bit here:<a href="https://pub.dev/packages/flutter_bloc" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">BLoC (Business Logic Components)</a>&nbsp;can be described as a pattern in which everything within an app is represented by as<a href="https://dart.dev/tutorials/language/streams" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">stream</a>&nbsp;of events.&nbsp;<a href="https://pub.dev/packages/rxdart" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">RxDart</a>&nbsp;is reactive functional programming for Dart, based on ReactiveX (Rx).
As you can see, BLoC moves the business logic into a separate layer. This is very similar to a ViewModel. RxDart can then be used for communication between the ViewModel and View via streams (instead of interfaces or change notifiers for example).
Android
The Model: The model package in Android can be anything from a<a href="https://developer.android.com/training/data-storage/sqlite" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">SQLite</a>database,&nbsp;<a href="https://developer.android.com/training/data-storage/room" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Room</a>, or any third party ORM dependencies like&nbsp;<a href="https://realm.io/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Realm</a>. In<code>MVVM</code>, the model layer is a POJO (plain old java object) class. The package consists of only Java/Kotlin classes without any reference to the Android platform for unit testing.
The View: The view package in Android is made up of either an Activity, Fragment, or a custom View class.
The ViewModel: The&nbsp;<code>ViewModel</code>&nbsp;in Android is designed to store and manage UI-related data in a lifecycle conscious approach. All communication between viewmodel and view is using<a href="https://developer.android.com/topic/libraries/architecture/livedata" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">LiveData</a>.
iOS
The Model: The model package in iOS is similar to the model layer in Android. The layer is supposed to represent simple POJO data. The data can be stored in either a<a href="https://developer.apple.com/documentation/coredata" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">CoreData</a>&nbsp;instance or Realm database.
The View:&nbsp; The view package is represented by&nbsp;<code>UIView</code>&nbsp;or<code>UIViewController</code>&nbsp;objects, accompanied by their .xib files or .storyboard files.
The ViewModel: The ViewModel layer in iOS hides all the complexity with regards to networking, data preparation for the View layer and notifiers for model changes.</body></html>

So in this blog post, we’ll cover in detail all the necessary steps for moving your precious collectibles to a safer place.
<h2 id="whatisahardwarewalletandwhymightyouwantone" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">What is a Hardware Wallet and Why Might You Want One?</h2>
If you’re reading this, you likely have your NFTs on your hot (or online) wallet - think places like MetaMask or Coinbase. However, the most secure wallets in the market are known to be “hard wallets”.
Hard wallet, hardware wallet or cold wallet (or whatever you choose to call them) devices offer the best long-term storage for your collectibles. You’ll have a private key that’s created and stored on the physical device, which nobody except you has access to. Online wallets, on the other hand, can sometimes be hacked in multiple ways, because your key often is stored in the wallet database.
There are several options, but the most well-known hardware wallets are produced by<a href="https://www.ledger.com/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Ledger</a>&nbsp;and used by millions of crypto enthusiasts worldwide. They are extremely secure, user-friendly, and elegantly designed. This guide can support other hardware wallets but we’ll be using Ledger as the example. And just as a heads up, this article is not affiliated with any of Ledger devices, so we are not biased in any way here.

There are a few things to take care of before making a transfer:

Alright, first we need to connect your Ledger to your online wallet (in this example, we’ll use MetaMask)

<li>Navigate to your go-to online wallet, like MetaMask. Use the MetaMask browser extension on either Chrome or Firefox browsers for the best connectivity.</li>
<li>At this point, you probably have set up a regular account on MetaMask. Now, you are going to create a second account for your Ledger device with the following steps:</li>
<li>Within your MetaMask browser extension, press the three dots and then click Expand the view for better navigation.</li>
<li>After that plug in your hardware wallet to your computer, and open the Ethereum application on your Ledger. You should see ‘Application is ready’ displayed.</li>
<li>In the MetaMask extension click on the colorful circle and scroll down until you see Connect Hardware Wallet. Click it, and then on the next screen, click Ledger and click Continue.</li>
<li>Select the account address you’d like to use (you can select multiple if you’d like), enter your unique 8-digit pin and then click Unlock.</li>
<li>You should see a Ledger account now listed within your MetaMask extension.</li>
<li>If you’ve done all of the steps in this section, your Ledger is now in sync with your MetaMask wallet. Congrats! Now we’re going to ‘transfer’ your NFT to your freshly configured hardware wallet.
Note: the steps outlined here are different from those if you transfer an NFT from an online wallet to another online wallet.
<ol>
<li>Navigate to your OpenSea account and to your wallet within OpenSea.</li>
<li>Find the NFT you’d like to transfer to your newly configured Ledger hardware wallet. Then, click on the MetaMask browser extension and click on that good ‘ole colorful icon on the top right corner.</li>
<li>Find the Ledger wallet you’d like to move your NFT to, click it, and copy the Ledger address (at the top of your MetaMask extension window).</li>
<li>Click back into your OpenSea account with the NFT and click the Transfer icon (it looks like a paper airplane).</li>
<li>A pop-up window will appear and it will ask for the wallet address, and this is where you’ll paste in the Ledger address that you copied in step 4 of this section.</li>
<li>It’s important that you ensure the address to your Ledger wallet is correct before clicking Transfer, so double check that once or maybe even twice!</li>
<li>From there, click Transfer.</li>
<li>You shouldn’t need to pay for the actual transaction, as you’re not purchasing the NFT (you already own it), but you will have to pay the gas fee to transfer it. See the next section for information on gas fees.</li>
<li>Once you complete the gas fee, your NFT is now managed from the Ledger device. You can double-check it in your Ledger Live App. Note that it may<a href="https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4413768794257-Managing-NFTs-in-Ledger-Live-?docs=true" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">take up to 24 hours</a>to display your freshly transferred NFTs.</li>

However, the high gas fees on Ethereum are the main reason to look for other options. One of them is <a href="https://polygon.technology/" class="text-success" style="text-decoration: underline;">Polygon</a>&nbsp;- another blockchain provider that allows you to transfer an NFT free of charge. OpenSea now supports Polygon, so you can buy, purchase and transfer your NFTs on this marketplace. Gas fees are only applied on NFT transfers from Ethereum to the Polygon network. Be aware that Polygon uses commit chains, so you will probably have to wait a while for your NFTs to transfer.
If you are unsure which network your NFT is on, Polygon NFTs are identified by a hexagon icon that is purple and is usually located in the lower left-hand corner of an NFT item. Ethereum uses a dark gray color for its icon.
Another option to reduce your gas fees would be just to wait. Yep, that’s right! Gas fees are not set when transferring NFTs. They tend to fluctuate a good bit, so by keeping an eye on them, you can find the perfect time to finalize your transfer.

The primary differentiation for blockchain lies in its decentralized nature. When an enterprise company champions an emerging technology, they tend to monopolize and drive the market as such, which a wider audience may not necessarily agree to.

The assumption that blockchain will only revolutionize the tech industry is false. We’ve already seen many others adopt blockchain. For example, this technology could facilitate faster and cheaper money settlements across borders or manage fractional ownership of automobiles. Another well-known use case for blockchain is for voting purposes. In that example, by using blockchain as the base, constituents can vote via laptop, smartphone, or tablet, resulting in immediately verifiable results. Furthermore, this removes the element of possible tampering since all transactions on blockchain are verifiable and transparent.
<h2 id="whatwillsupportthelongevityofblockchaintechnologyandinyouropinionwhydoyoubelieveitsheretostay" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">What will support the longevity of blockchain technology? And, in your opinion, why do you believe it’s here to stay?</h2>
Admittedly, blockchain can sometimes have an unfriendly onboarding process. The longevity of blockchain as a technology is dependent on mass adoption, for which I feel the onboarding process could be simplified. However, the potential challenge of adoption has not necessarily stopped innovation in this space. I believe that adoption is perhaps just a minor bump in the road in the bigger realm of things. Web3 users understand that there will be some learning to do (as was the case during the dotcom boom), but companies that spend the time and effort helping their users onboard are most likely to be rewarded in the end.
With all that being said, there are tons of new products that help with user onboarding in web3 today. Coinbase, for example, has done a tremendous amount of work in bringing on a whole new generation of users. So the future does indeed look bright, albeit if it's still some ways ahead.
<h2 id="howcanstartupsandestablishedbusinessesleverageblockchainintheirbusinessplanorproductidea" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">How can startups and established businesses leverage blockchain in their business plan or product idea?</h2>
Blockchain applications really depend on your business. For example, if your work is heavily ingrained in supply chain and logistics, you could potentially see many benefits from moving over to blockchain, especially for compliance and policy management initiatives. There are a host of options to choose from to help with cost as well, including other chains like Solana, Binance, and Avax that are backward compatible with Ethereum and are a good alternative.
<h2 id="doyouthinkeverycompanyshouldhaveblockchainontheirradaristhereanadvantagetonotjumpingintotheblockchainweb3world" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">Do you think every company should have blockchain on their radar? Is there an advantage to not jumping into the blockchain/web3 world?</h2>
Blockchain is definitely not a one size fits all solution. For example, blockchain might not be the ideal solution for a government organization that considers IP privacy of the utmost importance. Blockchain is not meant to replace the current web2, in my opinion, it is more to help us get to a ‘utopian’ state at a much faster rate. I definitely recommend exploring blockchain technology for any company on a case-by-case basis, keeping in mind that since this is an emerging tech, there will be a lot of upfront investment required.

At its current stage, any product within the web3 space that is helping users either with onboarding or security is a success. And I still notice a wide gap in the market in terms of consumer demand and supply. Another prime example of a niche that could be disrupted is the financial sector, specifically stock trading that is handled by ‘market makers’ and money remittance. Many people don’t understand how spreads and bid/ask function in the stock market's background or how much markup institutions add for moving money around. Cut out the middleman and pass the savings to the customer (and have transparency in the process). Take a look at uniswap as an example: Uniswap has given birth to a whole new ecosystem of products in the financial sector.
The most important message to understand is that you don't necessarily need a ‘coding’ background to succeed in web3. Community managers, product owners, and marketing people are all essential parts of helping spread the word about web3!
<h2 id="whatsyouradvicetonewbusinessesandstartupstryingtoidentifyandbridgeagapintheblockchainworldthroughbuildinganapp" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">What’s your advice to new businesses and startups trying to identify and bridge a gap in the blockchain world through building an app?</h2>
Do not be afraid of technology. Blockchain sounds very confusing and daunting, and to an extent it certainly is. My biggest piece of advice is to trust the process and the team that you are working with. New things are happening every day in the blockchain world. Unlike mature technologies, teams that are constantly learning and adapting will be the winners in the end.
<h2 id="haveyounoticedanyblockchaintrendswithintheappsoftwareindustry" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">Have you noticed any blockchain trends within the app/software industry?</h2>
The trend has definitely moved away from doing NFT drops. It was all the rage last year, but now it has moved on to providing actual value to your users, rather than just having them hold a jpg image. The current trend is building products that have an open roadmap. When I say open, I mean where the core team actively involves the end users in the decision-making process, and guides their decisions accordingly. Web3 is all about empowering people, and what better way to do that than building your product in the public realm?!
<h2 id="howistheblockchaindevelopmentprocessdifferentthanbuildinganappwithdifferenttechnology" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">How is the blockchain development process different than building an app with different technology?</h2>
That’s a great question. The development process is different from traditional software in one key area: Every single deployment or change in blockchain costs money. Unlike web2 (where if you ship out something broken, you can easily pull it down and rework it), web3 does not appreciate that. A broken deployment will cost you money (as in the actual deployment itself costs money, not counting what you can lose due to a bad deployment). Additionally, a poor-deployment cannot be pulled down either. As a result, the team has to be judicious with their deployment and triple-check their work.

After our initial conversations and contract, we’re ready to dive into the design and dev of your app! Ideally, our clients give us an SOW (statement of work) detailing all of the requirements. Typically these documents help us understand the app features, functions, and various UX flows from the app’s end-user perspective. Although it’s not required, it also helps us visualize an end product tremendously if our clients have any wireframes or other designs.
<h2 id="howlongdoesittaketobuildanmvp" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">How long does it take to build an MVP?</h2>
Many of our projects start as an MVP (minimum viable product). This is a great way to get your app into the hands of users quickly while gaining feedback and adding new features over time. Building an app MVP depends on each client and the product requirements, but for most greenfield projects, a timeline of at least three months is a good starting point.
<h2 id="whattoolsdoyouusethroughouttheproject" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">What tools do you use throughout the project?</h2>
Our team uses many industry-leading tools to get the job done! Here are just a few examples:
For developing mobile apps, we often work cross-platform with Flutter, which helps our clients save time and money (one codebase that’s built for multiple platforms). In addition, we often develop and test our backend products on Firebase, work with design tools like Figma, and use AWS for hosting capabilities.
<h2 id="howdoyouapproachproducttesting" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">How do you approach product testing?</h2>
We always support our clients through each phase of their app launch, and testing is no exception! At OakTree, we typically do unit testing on our codebase. However, we always recommend manual testing on the product before releasing it to the public.
Once each sprint is completed, we provide a Testflight build on iOS for internal testing. When the app is far enough along, each client tests and provides feedback on the product. After a few rounds of feedback from the client and once we get the greenlight with release notes, the build is deployed to the App Store automatically using CI/CD tools like CircleCI or Bitrise.
<h2 id="whatisyourcoveragerateonunittesting" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">What is your coverage rate on unit testing?</h2>
Unit testing is vital to ensure the app’s code is implemented correctly. We aim for 70% of test coverage for unit testing. However, this is always contingent on the project scope and timeline. In certain cases, we will only unit test mission-critical features to save the client time and money.
<h2 id="isthereadifferenceindeliverablesforweb2andweb3projects" class="text-primary mt-2" style="font-size: 16pt;">Is there a difference in deliverables for web2 and web3 projects?</h2>
Yes! All of the questions above are typically for a Web2 project process. For Web3 projects, once a product is ready for testing, we strongly recommend clients get a security audit from a third party, in addition to the testing we do, to give clients peace of mind. We are happy to say that all our Web3 projects thus far have never had a significant security flaw.
Once the audit report has been passed, we deploy the smart contract on testnet, and ask our client to verify the contract by testing it out. We also note some deployment metrics on testnet, which is then used to compute the possible gas fees for deployment.
We always let our Web3 clients know what to expect regarding deployment fees for the given date and time. If we feel that the deployment prices may be too high, our team will suggest an alternate window. We also provide go-live support for a 2-hour time slot once a Web3 project goes live!</body></html>
